University Residences, in partnership with Administrative Operations, has expanded its capacity to house Purdue students in Indianapolis with the full lease of LUX on Capitol, an apartment community located three blocks east of the campus.
Fully leasing LUX on Capitol will provide opportunities for 267 additional Boilermakers to live in the community and expand occupancy to approximately 650 students. Overall, the full lease of the facility will increase University Residences’ housing capacity in Indianapolis to more than 1,100 residents.
“The full lease represents another step in the university commitment to expanding our presence and enhancing the residential experience in Indianapolis,” says Evan Hawkins, senior director, Purdue University in Indianapolis, Administrative Operations.
“We are committed to supporting a high-quality learning environment by providing Boilermakers with a comfortable and engaging housing experience that provides easy access to vibrant campus and city life,” says John Eckman, assistant vice provost for Student Life. “We would like to thank our partners in Administrative Operations for their work in negotiating and preparing the lease to help us create this opportunity for students in Indianapolis.”
Rooms in LUX on Capitol will be open to incoming and returning students alike. Current Purdue students in Indianapolis who opt into and are selected in the housing reapplication process will be able to select available rooms during the reapplication process, which begins January 27. Incoming first-year students and new beginners on the Indianapolis campus will indicate their interest in University Residences housing later in the spring and may be assigned to a room in the facility.
Amenities available to students living at LUX on Capitol include a clubhouse with media and gaming areas, a 24-hour fitness center, a pool with tanning ledge, a basketball court and fire pit. University Residences Residential Life staff have worked to build and support a robust residential experience on the Indianapolis campus. Residents have access to programs such as hall clubs, leadership opportunities, community events, learning communities and more. LUX on Capitol provides Residential Life with opportunities to create additional experiences that are distinctly Purdue.
“I’m excited to share the benefits of having LUX on Capitol as a dedicated space for our students,” says Joanna Vickers Kortik, area coordinator, Purdue in Indianapolis. “Having a building that is fully ours creates an opportunity to build a stronger sense of community and belonging for all of our students living and learning in Indianapolis. The programming areas give us the flexibility to create meaningful activities and events that support academic success, foster personal development and build relationships among students.”
