Steps and Dates

Step 1: Opt into the Housing Reapplication Process

September 29, 2025, at 9 a.m. EDT – October 5, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EDT

Sign up for the housing reapplication process begins on September 29 at 9 a.m. EDT in the Housing Portal. Sign up will close on October 5 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. You must opt in and sign the housing application if you are interested in participating in the housing reapplication process. Everyone who opts in during this window will have an equal chance at being selected in the process. You will also identify roommates and roommate preferences or choose express placement to be assigned a space by University Residences if selected. All participants will have an equal opportunity at being selected, regardless of whether they are in a group or not. Group sizes will be weighted to ensure fairness.

Housing Portal

NOTE: If you do not opt in to the Housing Reapplication Process by October 5 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, you will not have another opportunity this fall to be assigned or select a room for the 2026-27 academic year.

Step 2: Housing Results Notification

By October 9, 2025

Residents who participated in the housing reapplication process will receive an email sent to their Purdue email address on October 9. In this email, you will receive one of the following: a time slot to choose a room from available inventory in the Housing Portal, a time slot to be assigned a space by University Residences, or a notification that you were not selected to continue in the reapplication process. Selected residents will be automatically assigned a 14-track meal plan during the reapplication process and will make their final meal plan selection during summer 2026.

If you opt into the process and are not selected, you will be automatically added to the standby list and may be contacted if space becomes available. If you have not received an update by the time the reapplication process concludes, you will have the opportunity to join a wait list in January.

NOTE: Selections are determined randomly.

Step 3: Room Selection and Confirm your Housing Contract

October 21 – October 31, 2025

Starting October 21, residents who were provided a time slot to select a room from available inventory will have an assigned six-hour window. If you selected a roommate group, the group will be provided one time slot to reserve a space. Roommate groups are weighted accordingly to not give an unfair advantage.

Time slots are divided into two groups: upper-class students and current first-year students. Each group will have their own scheduled opportunities in the portal for an assigned six-hour time slot. During your assigned time slot, you can change your selection until the six-hour time slot has ended. Once the time slot has ended, the room selection will be considered your final selection. If you miss or cannot make your time slot, there will be an opportunity for you to select a room on a make-up day at the end of your group’s room selection process. Please see the detailed schedules below.

Upper-class students (rising juniors and seniors) will have the first selection of spaces available, followed by current first-year students. Each group will have its own scheduled opportunities in the portal, different room type availability and different binding dates.

If you choose express placement during the opt-in phase and are provided a time slot by University Residences, you will be assigned and notified of your assignment during your assigned time slot.

Upper-class Student Room Selection and Contract Confirmation

  1. Room Selection: October 21 – October 23, 2025
Upper-class student time slots will be scheduled during this time frame. You will also be able to include your roommate in your room selection if identified in the opt-in phase. If you choose express placement, you will be assigned a space by University Residences during your time slot.
  2. Missed Time Slot Room Selection: October 24, 2025
If you cannot make your assigned time slot or miss your assigned time slot, you will have an opportunity to select a room on October 24, 2025.
  3. Contract Binding Date: October 27, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EDT
If an upper-class student has been assigned a space or selected a room by this date and time, the housing contract will become legally binding.

Current First-Year Student Room Selection and Contract Confirmation

  1. Room Selection: October 28 – October 30, 2025
Current first-year student time slots will be scheduled during this time frame. You will also be able to include your roommate in your room selection if identified in the opt-in phase. If you choose express placement, you will be assigned a space by University Residences during your time slot.
  2. Missed Time Slot Room Selection: October 31, 2025
If you cannot make your assigned time slot or miss your assigned time slot, you will have an opportunity to select a room on October 31, 2025.
  3. Contract Binding Date: November 3, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST
If a current first-year student has been assigned a space or selected a room by this date, the housing contract will become legally binding.

Room Types Available to each Group:

While feedback from focus groups helped guide general preferences, such as traditional residence halls for newer students and apartment-style living for upper-class students, students from each group will have access to a variety of spaces during their assigned time slot.

Room and Board Costs

The 2026-27 academic year room rates and meal plans have not been approved by the Purdue University Board of Trustees yet. Room rates will be available to view during room selection and will be posted on the Housing Rates webpage as soon as they are approved. Meal plan information will be made available on the Dining & Culinary website.

Off-Campus Living

While the residence halls are a great option, students may also choose to live off campus. If you have questions about moving off-campus, contact Purdue’s Off-Campus Housing Office at offcampushousing@purdue.edu.
