2027-28 West Lafayette Housing Reapplication Process

Sept. 28, 2026, at 9 a.m. ET - Oct. 4, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET

Sign up for the housing reapplication process begins on Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. ET in the Housing Portal. Sign up will close on Oct. 4 at 11:59 p.m. ET. You must opt in and sign the housing application if you are interested in participating in the housing reapplication process. Everyone who opts in during this window will have an equal chance at being selected in the process. You will also identify roommates and roommate preferences or choose express placement to be assigned a space by University Residences if selected. If you’d like to participate in a living-learning community, you can indicate your interest during this step. All participants will have an equal opportunity at being selected, regardless of whether they are in a group or not. Group sizes will be weighted to ensure fairness.

NOTE: If you do not opt in to the housing reapplication process by Oct. 4 at 11:59 p.m. ET, you will not have another opportunity this fall to be assigned or select a room for the 2027-28 academic year.

By Oct. 7, 2026

Residents who participated in the housing reapplication process will receive an email sent to their Purdue email address on Oct. 7. In this email, you will receive one of the following: a time slot to choose a room from available inventory in the Housing Portal, a time slot to be assigned a space by University Residences, or a notification that you were not selected to continue in the reapplication process. Selected residents will be automatically assigned a 14-track meal plan during the reapplication process and will make their final meal plan selection during summer 2027.

If you opt in to the process and are not selected, you will be automatically added to the standby list and may be contacted if space becomes available. If you have not received an update by the time the reapplication process concludes, you will have the opportunity to join a waitlist in January.

NOTE: Selections are determined randomly.

Oct. 20-30, 2026

Upperclassmen Room Selection and Contract Confirmation

1. Room Selection: Oct. 20-22, 2026
   Upperclassmen time slots will be scheduled during this time frame. You will also be able to include your roommate in your room selection if identified in the opt-in phase. If you choose express placement, you will be assigned a space by University Residences during your time slot.
2. Missed Time Slot Room Selection: Oct. 23, 2026
   If you cannot make your assigned time slot or miss your assigned time slot, you will have an opportunity to select a room on Oct. 23, 2026.
3. Contract Binding Date: Oct. 26, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET
   If an upperclassmen has been assigned a space or selected a room by this date and time, the housing contract will become legally binding.

Current First-Year Student Room Selection and Contract Confirmation

1. Room Selection: Oct. 27-29, 2026
   Current first-year student time slots will be scheduled during this time frame. You will also be able to include your roommate in your room selection if identified in the opt-in phase. If you choose express placement, you will be assigned a space by University Residences during your time slot. 
2. Missed Time Slot Room Selection: Oct. 30, 2026
   If you cannot make your assigned time slot or miss your assigned time slot, you will have an opportunity to select a room on Oct. 30, 2026.
3. Contract Binding Date: Nov. 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET
   If a current first-year student has been assigned a space or selected a room by this date, the housing contract will become legally binding. 

Room Types Available to Each Group:

While feedback from focus groups helped guide general preferences, such as traditional residence halls for newer students and apartment-style living for upperclassmen, students from each group will have access to a variety of spaces during their assigned time slot.
