How do I log on to the Purdue Housing Portal?

To access the Purdue Housing Portal your Purdue Online Student Career Account will need to be activated.

Purdue IT Service Desk can help you activate your account. You'll simply need to gather information before connecting.

1. Look up your 10-digit Purdue ID number (PUID) in your IU Student Center dashboard.

After logging in, navigate to My Profile, then to External Identification.  The 10-digit value listed for Purdue University West Lafayette is your PUID.

2. Contact the IT Service Desk at (765) 494-4000, available 24/7, to begin the set up process. You'll need to have your PUID on hand. 

Staff at the IT Service Desk will ask you a few questions and then direct you to visit https://www.purdue.edu/accountsetup to complete the process.

With this account you’ll gain access to your @purdue.edu email which we ask that you start monitoring on a regular basis.

Moving forward, your Purdue e-mail account will be the primary means for providing important information related to a variety of campus services, such as academic advising, financial aid, dining, housing, registration and scheduling, and a host of other academic and student success related services. 

Do I have to live in University Residences?
No one is required to live in University housing at any time - unless the student has signed a housing contract to live in University Residences during the contract term. Students who are not attending Purdue University during the contract term will be released from their signed housing contract.
Are your dates the same as IU Indianapolis?

Purdue in Indianapolis will have the same academic calendar as Purdue West Lafayette. IU Indianapolis will be different.

I am transferring from Indianapolis to West Lafayette, what should I do for housing?

Log into the housing portal and complete the Change of Location form. A Central Assignment Office Clerk will contact you within 3 business days to walk you through the process. 

North Hall

What furniture is provided?

What is the mattress size and what size bed linens should I bring?
Mattresses are twin XL and bed linens should be twin XL or full size.
Can I have a fridge in my room?

Compact refrigerators are allowed as long as the total for all refrigerators in the room does not exceed 7.0 cubic feet. Both the refrigerator and the power cord must be UL approved and be in safe electrical condition. For proper sanitation and utilization, refrigerators must be cleaned prior to holiday breaks and hall closings.

Students may rent a micro fridge to share with their roommates at https://mymicrofridge.com/.

What are the requirements for appliances in my room?

The following cooking devices are not allowed in rooms within North Hall due to the fire protection equipment installed and the steam/smoke that the appliances produce:

  • Deep fryers or air fryers
  • George Foreman grill or similar product
  • Open-element cooking items such as toasters, toaster ovens, sterno cookers, fondue pots, etc.
  • "Instant Pots" or similar product
Microwaves are permitted only if rented through MicroFridge. Otherwise, each resident has access to microwaves in select common areas throughout the building. It is the responsibility of the resident using the appliance to clean it after use and to follow manufacturer provided instructions when heating items.
Can I loft my bed?
Students who wish to loft their bed should inquire at the hall main office after moving in. 
How do I report a maintenance concern?
You can submit a Work Order Request form to report maintenance concerns.
Am I required to have a meal plan?
Yes. Students living in North Hall are required to have a meal plan. Students may learn more and purchase a meal plan through IUI Dining.
What if I have questions or concerns with my meal plan?
Meal plans are handled through IUI Dining and should be directed to them for questions or concerns.
Am I able to cook my own food?
North Hall has a kitchenette available for all residents to use on each floor.
Is North Hall co-ed?
Yes. North Hall is co-ed; however, each room is single gender.
Where can I do my laundry?
Laundry facilities are provided onsite and is free for residents of North Hall.
Is there public transit available?
Jagline is a free bus system available to all students.
Can I park on campus?
Parking Permits are available to any residential students with vehicles and are issued on a first come, first served basis. For more information on parking, please visit parking.iupui.edu, or call 317-274-4232. 
Is there guest parking available?
There are no parking spaces in the campus housing parking lots designated for visitor parking.
Can I smoke in North Hall?

All University facilities, grounds and vehicles are tobacco and smoke-free.  Effective July 1, 2020, no one in the state of Indiana under the age of 21 may purchase, use or possess any tobacco, nicotine vapor or alternative tobacco product. Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including, but not limited to, fines and educational sanctions. Additionally, the use of e-cigarettes or vaporizers is strictly prohibited.

Can I tour North Hall?
Students can schedule an admissions visit, which includes a campus tour and tour of North Hall.

LUX On Capitol

Each unit is equipped with a full kitchen.
Am I required to have a meal plan?
No. Students living in Lux on Capitol have the option to have a meal plan. Students who are interested and wish to purchase a meal plan may visit IUI Dining.
What amenities are there?

How do I report a maintenance concern?

You can submit a work order though the Lux Resident Portal, or download the Resident Portal app, to report maintenance concerns.

Emergency maintenance is available 24/7 at (317) 766 - 9444 and following the prompts to be connected with on-call maintenance. 

Maintenance Emergencies are considered to be the following:

  • No heat when outdoor temperatures are below 60 degrees Fahrenheit
  • No hot water
  • No AC when outdoor temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • No electricity
  • Fire
  • Flood or water infiltration
  • Clogged toilet (if there is no other working toilet accessible within the apartment)
  • Any safety concern (building structural damage, down power lines, fallen trees, icey conditions, broken door, broken window, lock issues)
Can I park at LUX?
A limited number of parking passes will be available to purchase through Purdue University Residences in the housing portal beginning August 1.
What if I don't have a car?
LUX is a 10-minute walk from Purdue in Indianapolis, and just steps from all the attractions of downtown Indianapolis. There is also a bus route accessible from Lux through Jagline, a free bus system available to all students.
Is LUX open to non-students?
Nearly all the residents at LUX are students at either Purdue in Indianapolis, IU Indianapolis or UIndy; however, LUX is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students.
Can I smoke in Lux?
Lux is a smoke free building.
Can I tour LUX?
Students can schedule a tour by contacting LUX directly, which includes a tour of common areas and a virtual apartment tour. Students can also go online to view the virtual tour of common areas and an apartment.
