Summer Housing

Summer housing is available for undergraduate students who are taking summer session classes or who will be completing summer research for an academic department at Purdue University. Housing for summer interns can be found in a separate section on the side navigation menu of this page.

Due to the increased demand for summer session housing, double room and in some programs triple room occupancy only will be offered. All summer assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis (space permitting). Notification of summer room assignments will begin being sent to the student's Purdue email address by May 8th, 2023, for students in regular summer sessions and by June 15th for Summer Start, Early Start and Emerging Leaders Scholars.  After the initial release date, summer assignments will go out weekly depending on when you sign the application.  All efforts will be made to assign you to your fall assignment or in close proximity to your fall assignment.  If you are required to move for the academic year, your move will be coordinated on or around August 3rd.

Summer Start

New students admitted to the Summer Start program will be required to sign a summer session housing application for the Think Summer session and will be housed in a double or triple room in Harrison Hall.  

Important Note: If you plan to continue living in University Residences for the academic year, you will also be required to sign an academic year housing contract by May 5, 2023 at 11:55 p.m. EDT.  Contracts received after April 15, 2023 may not be assigned to an on campus residence but may be assigned to an University Residences Boiler Apartment.    All effort will be made to assign you to the same space for the summer term and academic year contract.    

This program is only available for new incoming students opting to start during summer.

***Notification of room assignments will begin being sent by June 15, 2023, to the student's Purdue email address.

Emerging Leaders Scholars

New students admitted to the Emerging Leaders Scholars program will be required to sign a summer session housing application for the Think Summer session and will be housed in a double or triple room in Harrison Hall.  Students in the EL program will remain in their assigned summer room for the duration of the academic year.    

Important Note: If you plan to continue living in University Residences for the academic year, they will also be required to sign an academic year housing application by May 5, 2023 at 11:55 p.m. EDT.  Applications received after April 15, 2023 may not be assigned to an on campus residence but may be assigned to an University Residences Boiler Apartment.  Students who sign an academic year housing contract by May 5, 2023, will be randomly prioritized in the housing assignment process for their academic year room assignment.

All effort will be made to assign you to the same space for the summer term and academic year contract.

Early Start

New students who opt to participate in the Early Start program and want to live in University Residences will be required to sign a summer session housing application for the Think Summer session and will be housed in a double, double w/ shared bath, or triple room in one of the summer halls.  All effort will be made to assign you to or near your fall assignment.  If you are required to move for the academic year, your move will be coordinated between August 4 - 6th.

Students Not Wishing To Move Home May Apply For Late Stay/Early Arrival (Additional Fee Applies) before Fall Semester

Important Notes

  • Once you apply for summer housing, you will be expected to fulfill all the terms and conditions of the selected summer contracted session term.
  • After accepting your offer of admission, wait up to two business days to gain access to the housing contract.
  • Your room and meal plan charges will be assessed for the entire summer session term you choose and sign an application for – regardless of late arrival or early check-out.  You will need to select the summer session term that best meets your housing needs.
  • Summer room and meal plan charges will be assessed and will appear in your MyPurdue account beginning in May.
  • Students who live on campus during the summer are required to take a 13-Meal Plan.
  • While we try to accommodate roommate requests, we cannot assure these requests will be met.
  • If you have a 2023-2024 Academic Year contract with University Residences, early move-in to your fall assignment may be available for an additional fee and should be coordinated through your assigned hall's main office.
  • You may be asked to move to your fall assignment near the end of the summer session, on or around August 4 - 6.

Meal Plan

A required 13-meal plan will be included in the 2023 Summer Contract.  Meal swipes may be used in any of the Purdue Dining & Culinary residential dining courts that are serving.  In addition to 13 meals per week, students will also receive an allotment of Dining Dollars, based upon the selected summer contracted session term. 

  • Summer meal swipes and Dining Dollars will start on the Monday breakfast of the contracted summer session term. 
  • Dining Dollars will be distributed on a pro-rated weekly basis for the contracted summer session term.
  • Dining Dollars are non-refundable. 
  • Dining Dollars will expire at the end of the contracted summer session term.
  • Dining Dollars will not carry over to the fall semester.
  • Dining Dollars may be used to purchase extra meals for themselves or their accompanying guest in Purdue Dining & Culinary residential and retail dining locations

Amenities

All summer assignment spaces will be air conditioned. Double, Double w/ shared bath, and Triple rooms are study/sleeping rooms, not small apartments. Small electrical appliances such as coffee pots, popcorn poppers, mini-refrigerators, and microwaves are permitted in student rooms. As a reminder, all University Residence facilities are smoke free.

Parking

Students who have signed a 2023 Summer Session contract will be eligible to park in any designated University Residences parking space at no charge for the summer only.
