Move-Out Information for Students & Families

Just like the move-in process, we want to make your move-out process as smooth as possible. In most cases, you must be completely moved out of your room and complete the checkout process prior to noon on the final day of your housing contract. Late stay options may be available at an extra cost and must be approved. Check your Purdue email and direct questions to your hall main office or resident assistant (RA).

The last day dining will be available is May 10. 

Late Stay

If you need to stay after Sunday, May 11, 2025, at noon, but no later than Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at noon:

  • Visit the Housing Portal and complete the late stay form, available beginning March 24, 2025.
  • Potential reasons for requesting late stay may include personal reasons such as flight arrangements and transportation.
  • You may be assessed a $38/day room-only charge for staying late if you live in a traditional residence hall.
  • When departing for summer break you must complete the steps listed below.

Departing for Summer Break

  • Plan to move out prior to Sunday, May 11, 2025, at noon. Students who are not moved out by May 11 will be charged $38 daily up until Wednesday, May 14 and are not eligible to stay beyond May 14.
  • Residents should log into the Housing Portal to check out.

North Hall Residents

  • Clean your room and remove all personal belongings before check-out, ensuring you restore your room to its original condition from when you moved in.
  • Complete the Check Out form in the Housing PortalThis will deactivate your residence hall access on your Purdue ID.
  • Complete the North Hall Room Condition Report, using the Move Out option.
  • Residents will be billed for any damages that have occurred as determined by the University Residences team inspection or assessed to the hall community. 

LUX Residents

  • Clean your room and remove all personal belongings before check-out, ensuring you restore your room to its original condition from when you moved in.
  • Complete the Check Out form in the Housing Portal.
  • Complete the LUX Room Condition Report, using the Move Out option.
  • Turn in your key packet to the key drop box at the LUX main office. 
  • Lost key (not turned in at check out): $100 per lost key to replace the lock.
  • Residents will be billed for any damages that have occurred as determined by the University Residences team inspection or assessed to the hall community. 

Improper Checkout/Items Left Behind

Please note, you may be charged $38/day room only and/or a $50 improper check-out fee for:

  • failing to properly move out/check out when departing.
  • failing to designate an escort to assist with retrieving your belongings.
  • failing to properly or timely remove all belongings.

FAQs

I need to stay after May 11, 2025, how much does it cost and what do I do?
Students needing to stay after May 11, but no later than May 14 at noon should complete the housing late stay form located in the Housing Portal. Students will be charged $38/day room-only charge for each night they stay between the nights of May 11 - May 14.
I need to stay longer than May 14, what do I do?
Students are not permitted to stay beyond May 14, unless they are participating in commencement or they have signed up for Summer Intern Housing or Summer Student Housing. Please note: You may be required to move temporarily to another location. Keep an eye on your email for any relocation instructions.
How will I get my mail?
  • Before you leave, check your mailbox and retrieve packages from the main office.
  • Update your mailing address at myPurdue.
  • All mail will be forwarded or returned to sender.
  • North Hall: Amazon packages will be held and donated after 30 days.
  • LUX: Complete an official USPS change of address to ensure their mail is forwarded properly.
