Spring Semester General Frequently Asked Questions

If I cannot login and sign my application today, will my chances of being assigned to my first preference choice decrease as time passes before I'm able to login?

Students must submit their housing application by December 1, 2024. While assignments are not made based on the application signed date, we encourage everyone interested in living with University Residences to apply as early as possible. Housing assignments are made based upon availability and three general areas:

  1. Approved Housing Accommodations and Medical AC Requests
  2. Preferences (profile and room type)
  3. Roommate Requests
I'm not certain that I am attending Purdue University. Should I sign a housing application?
If you plan to attend Purdue University for the spring semester, you should sign a housing contract at your earliest convenience. If you later decide not to attend Purdue University for the spring semester, you may cancel your signed housing contract by the new student spring semester contract cancellation deadline of December 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EST. After December 1, 2024, your signed housing contract may only be cancelled if you are not attending Purdue University at the West Lafayette campus during the contract term. However, you will not receive a refund of the housing contract processing fee.
I am not attending Purdue University. How do I cancel my housing application?
If your plans have changed and you will not attend Purdue University for the spring semester, you will need to cancel your housing contract online in the Housing Portal.

After December 1, 2024, you will need to send an email message that includes your name, your Purdue University ID Number, and a note that you are not attending Purdue University for the spring semester. Your email message should be sent to: housing@purdue.edu. 
Can I change my Pay Plan?
As the University payment plan is administered by the Bursar's Office, requests to change a payment plan will need to be directed to the Bursar's Office. 
What residences are air conditioned?

The following residences provide air conditioning in their student rooms:

    • Suites in Cary Quadrangle (except for Cary South Hall) Note: New students may be assigned to rooms in Cary South Hall as the suites at Cary will most likely be filled in advance by current residents.

Am I required to make a payment at this time?
Of the University admission acceptance deposit, you have already paid, $200 will be applied as your nonrefundable housing contract processing fee – after you sign a housing contract. This will be reflected in your MyPurdue portal beginning in November. Current students presently living off campus: You will be assessed a nonrefundable $200 housing contract processing fee after you sign a housing contract. This charge will be reflected in your MyPurdue portal beginning in November. The housing contract processing fee will be waived for students returning to University Residences from Industrial Co-op, Study Abroad, Military or for a medical reason. 
When is the deadline to sign a housing application?

December 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET is the deadline for housing applications to be submitted. However, we encourage everyone to apply as early as possible.

Please keep in mind it takes up to two business days to gain access to the housing portal once a student accepts their offer. 

 

Am I required to find a roommate before I sign my housing application?
Students who do not have an accepted roommate request will be assigned with a roommate considering the responses to the Personal Preference questions you and other students have answered. 
Are roommate requests guaranteed?
As space in University Residences is limited for the spring semester, it may not be possible to accommodate roommate requests. 
When am I obligated to this housing application?
Once you enter your Purdue University ID Number to sign a housing application, this is considered a legal electronic signature. You may cancel your signed application online until the cancellation deadline of December 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EST. After the cancellation deadline, your housing application becomes a legally binding contract and your signed contract may only be cancelled if you do not attend Purdue University during the contract period. Students will not be released from their housing contract to live in a sorority, fraternity, apartment, cooperative housing, private home, or other place of residence or as a result of a change in financial status. 
I have signed a housing contract and I am not attending Purdue University. Can I be released from my housing contract?
If your plans have changed and you will not attend Purdue University for the spring semester, you will need to cancel your signed housing contract online in the Housing Portal. If you have already been assigned to a room, you will need to send an email message that includes your name, your Purdue University ID Number, and a note that you are not attending Purdue University for the spring semester. Your email message should be sent to: housing@purdue.edu. 
Can I change my Meal Plan?

The Change Your Meal Plan Option will be available in the housing portal beginning January 6, 2025, at noon until Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET. 

Students assigned to Hawkins Hall, Hilltop Apartments, or Wabash Lofts will have the option to select Room-Only up until January 12, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

How do I change my personal information?
If any of your personal information is incorrect, you must change your personal information within the myPurdue Web site. If your gender is not correct, you will need to contact the Admissions Office at (765) 494-1776. Please allow up to 72 hours for the housing contract portal to reflect any changes made to your personal information on the myPurdue Web site. 
I'm interested in installing a loft in my room in University Residences. When can I obtain information about lofts?
You will receive specific information about installing a loft in your room along with your Notice of Assignment. You will receive this information on or about December 6, 2024, at your Purdue email address. View Our Loft Guidelines and Options page here.
When will I be notified of my residence assignment?
You will be notified of your residence assignment information on or about December 6, 2024, at your Purdue email address.
How is priority established for assignment to space in University Residences?

I missed submitting my housing application by the preferred May 20 date, what should I do?
Students should submit their housing application as soon as possible, but no later than June 5, 2024. June 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET is the deadline for housing applications to be submitted. Students will be placed in housing based on the availability of their preferences.
I am not attending Purdue University. How do I cancel my housing application?

If your plans have changed and you will not attend Purdue University for the 2024-25 academic year, you will need to cancel your housing application online on the housing portal.

After June 5, 2024, you will need to send an email message that includes your name, your Purdue University ID Number, and a note that you are not attending Purdue University for the 2024-25 academic year. Your email message should be sent to housing@purdue.edu.

Am I required to make a payment at this time?

Of the University admission acceptance deposit you have already paid, $200 will be applied as your nonrefundable housing application processing fee – after you sign a housing application.  This will be reflected in your MyPurdue portal beginning in July. Transfer, re-entry and re-admit students:  If space is available and you are offered a housing application, you will be assessed a nonrefundable $200 housing application processing fee after you sign a housing application.  This charge will be reflected in your MyPurdue portal beginning in July.  The housing application processing fee will be waived for students returning to University Residences from Industrial Co-op, Study Abroad, Military, or for a medical reason.

Are there any fees associated with being in a Learning Community?
Learning Communities have a $200 programmatic fee for the academic year. This helps to pay for instructors, programming, and any travel for Learning Community students.
When is the deadline to sign a housing application?

June 5, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET is the deadline for housing applications to be submitted. However, we encourage everyone to apply as early as possible.

Please keep in mind it takes up to two business days to gain access to the housing portal once a student accepts their offer. Students should plan accordingly.

Are roommate requests guaranteed?

Roommate requests submitted by the priority deadline of May 20, 2024 will be approved as space permits and are subject to completed signed applications, approved housing accommodations and medical AC requests, educational programs, and personal preferences respectively; however, roommate requests received after the priority deadline will be considered but are not guaranteed.

It is possible that roommate requests may be assigned together, but in a triple, quad or apartment.

Students in Learning Communities will not be assigned with a requested roommate who isn’t also in the same Learning Community.

Can I change my Meal Plan?

Students may make changes to their selections in the housing portal until June 5, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Once new student assignments are released on or around July 22, 2024, students will have another opportunity to make changes to their meal plan. The deadline to change your meal plan is Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Students assigned to Hawkins Hall and Hilltop Apartments who want to change to a room-only plan must change their meal plan selection to room only no later than Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
