New Undergraduate Resident FAQs

Students are encouraged to submit their housing application by April 15, 2026. While assignments are not made based on the application signed date, we encourage everyone interested in living with University Residences to apply as early as possible. Housing assignments are made based upon availability and four general areas:

1. approved housing accommodations and medical AC requests
2. educational programs (Learning Communities and Honors College)
3. personal preferences (profile and room type) 
4. roommate requests 

If you plan to attend Purdue University for the 2026-27 academic year, you should sign a housing application by the new student application deadline of May 5, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. If you later decide not to attend Purdue University for the 2026-27 academic year, you may cancel your signed housing application by the new student application cancellation deadline of May 5, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. After May 5, 2026, your signed housing application becomes legally binding and may only be cancelled if you are not attending Purdue University at the West Lafayette campus during the contract term. However, you will not receive a refund of the housing application processing fee.

If your plans have changed and you will not attend Purdue University for the 2026-27 academic year, you will need to cancel your housing application online on the Housing Portal.

After May 5, 2026, you will need to contact the Central Assignments Office to inform us that you are not attending Purdue University for the 2026-27 academic year.

As the University payment plan is administered by the Bursar's Office, requests to change a payment plan will need to be directed to the Bursar's office.

Of the University admission acceptance deposit you have already paid, $200 will be applied as your nonrefundable housing application processing fee – after you sign a housing application.  This will be reflected in your MyPurdue portal beginning in July. Transfer, re-entry and re-admit students:  If space is available and you are offered a housing application, you will be assessed a nonrefundable $200 housing application processing fee after you sign a housing application. This charge will be reflected in your MyPurdue portal beginning in July.  The housing application processing fee will be waived for students returning to University Residences from Industrial Co-op, Study Abroad, Military, or for a medical reason.

May 5, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EDT is the deadline for housing applications to be submitted. However, you are encouraged to apply by April 15 to express your interest in Learning Communities and/or to participate in the roommate matching process following the application deadline.

Please keep in mind it takes up to two business days to gain access to the housing portal once a student accepts their offer. Students should plan accordingly. 

Students will only be able to submit their roommate preferences during the housing application period, and will later participate in the roommate matching process following the application deadline.

The priority application deadline to participate in the roommate matching process following the application deadline is April 15.  

Roommate requests will be approved as space permits and are subject to approved housing accommodations and medical AC requests, educational programs, and personal preferences respectively.

It is possible that roommate requests may be assigned together, but in a triple, quad or apartment.

Students in Learning Communities will not be assigned with a requested roommate who isn’t also in the same Learning Community. Please also be aware that depending on the number of applicants for each community, you may be assigned with a student from another community and be in close proximity of other participants of your assigned community. 

Once you enter your Purdue University ID Number to sign a housing application, this is considered a legal electronic signature. You may cancel your signed application online until May 5, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Beginning May 6, 2026, your signed application becomes legally binding and may only be cancelled if you do not attend Purdue University during the contract period. Students will not be released from their housing contract to live in a sorority, fraternity, apartment, cooperative housing, private home, or other place of residence or as a result of a change in financial status.

After May 5, 2026, you will need to contact the Central Assignments Office to inform us that you are not attending Purdue University for the 2026-27 academic year.

Students will be automatically assigned the 14 track meal plan and will have an opportunity during Summer 2026, after assignments have been released, to make changes to their meal plan for the 2026-27 academic year.

If any of your personal information is incorrect, you must change your personal information within the myPurdue website. If your gender is not correct, you will need to contact the Admissions Office at (765) 494-1776. Please allow up to 72 hours for the housing contract portal to reflect any changes made to your personal information on the myPurdue website.

New students will be notified of their room and roommate assignment on or around July 15, 2026.

The Change Your Meal Plan Option will be available in the housing portal beginning January 6, 2026, at 9 a.m. until Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Students assigned to Hawkins Hall or Hilltop Apartments will have the option to select Room-Only up until January 11, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
