More than 900 Boilermakers - the first residents of 3rd and West, Purdue’s newest apartment community - have moved into their campus homes as they embark on the 2025-26 school year.

Purdue University and University Residences welcomed the inaugural residents of 3rd and West during August. Located at the corner of Third Street and McCormick Road, 3rd and West is a five-story building with amenities designed to facilitate connection and build community for residents as the pursue their degree. The new complex was developed as part of a public-private partnership between Purdue Research Foundation and American Campus Communities.

Staff await the arrival of students in the 3rd and West main lobby.

The community contains over 400 units with apartments ranging from studio to four bedrooms. Features include in-unit washers and dryers, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor kitchens, social lounges, private study rooms and two landscaped courtyards, one of which is private for building residents.

In addition to brand-new amenities, the first residents of 3rd and West have a unique opportunity to play a central role in establishing new traditions. Members of the hall club will be the first Boilermakers to plan events for the community and play a key role in establishing its culture. Annual events unique to each community are passed down from generation to generation across University Residences – and we look forward to seeing how 3rd and West residents contribute their own unique traditions to our campus community.

Along with South Hall, under construction south of Hillenbrand and due to open in 2026, 3rdand West will contribute to a 35 percent increase in on-campus beds. These new facilities will help fulfill a primary objective of the Action Council on Student Housing and Wellbeing, a key initiative of Purdue President Mung Chiang under the leadership of Provost Patrick Wolfe and Chief Financial Officer Chris Ruhle.
