Spring Move-in FAQs for Students Living in University Residences

Can I change my selection at a later date?

Yes. You will be able to change your selection until January 19, 2021. Please be advised there are a limited number of slots available and if you select another option you may not be able to switch back to your original time slot.

Can I bring my own cart or dolly?

Yes. If you have a small rolling cart or dolly, consider bringing it to expedite the move-in process.

How do I ensure my roommate and I don't bring duplicate items?

If you are a new student, your assignment will be sent out on or before December 10, 2020. This notification will include your assigned roommate’s name and contact information. We recommend that you talk with your roommate over the break to introduce yourself as well as clarify what you should bring, such as a compact refrigerator, microwave, TV, iron, carpet, etc. Because space is limited, it's a good idea to discuss what each roommate plans to bring so you don't end up with duplicates.

Can I ship some of my possessions to my residence before move-in?

University Residences is unable to store or hold items for you over the break and is unable to accept packages for residents prior to January 6, 2021. Please try to time the mailing so the package arrives at the same time you do. Information regarding pickup will be available at your residence hall’s main office. Refer to the Housing Choices website for contact information.

Can my parents, relatives, or friends assist me with move-in?

NEW Students may bring a maximum of TWO guests to accompany them for move-in and everyone must wear a mask. If you bring more than two people, your additional guests will be asked to wait in the car until you have completed move-in. We understand many want to make this a family affair by brining siblings, significant others, etc. However, we want to keep our students, families and staff as safe as possible, so while limiting the number of guests at move-in is not ideal, it is necessary to help limit the exposure. Please note: children under the age of 12 may not be left unaccompanied.

Please Note: Guests of new student MUST have their temperature checked at the CoRec gyms (or PUFD after hours) move-in location in order to gain access to your residence hall. Individuals arriving from outside the US who are helping a student move in must show proof of a negative test result done within 14 days of being on campus OR proof of a positive result within the last 11-90 days. For more information about guest COVID tests, click here . Please direct related questions to the Purdue COVID-19 Information Center at 765-496-INFO (4636) or toll free 1-833-571-1043.

RETURNING Students - Please remember that off-campus guests are not allowed on resident floors or in residential apartments as you return from Winter Break. This is for the health and safety of all students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If I have a question about my room and move-in, whom should I contact?

For new students, our housing assignment notification will be sent on or about December 10 to your Purdue email address. This notification will include your assigned residence’s contact information. You may also refer to our website, www.housing.purdue.edu, for contact information. For returning students, please contact your residence's main office directly for any additional questions regarding move-in. All students must report to the CoRec prior to going to their assigned residence hall to move in.

Can I move in before the designated Boiler Cold Rush (BCR) move-in dates?

You are strongly advised to move in on the designated BCR move-in dates, which are Monday – Wednesday, January 11 – 13, 2021. The BCR orientation program will begin on January 14, 2021. Early arrival prior to January 11, 2021 will only be approved for university-sponsored orientation or employment groups. The sponsoring department must have previously submitted a list of their students/program participants to University Residences. Individual students who are not part of an approved early arrival group should either contact their assigned hall’s main office for an exception or plan to move in no earlier than Monday, January 11, 2021.

When can I move in? What if I must arrive after my assigned time slot?

You should plan to arrive at the CoRec (north entrance) during your selected move-in time. Check-in will be in gyms 4-6. Should something happen and you are unable to arrive during your scheduled time, you may arrive at the CoRec during the scheduled times listed immediately below and request to check-in.

  • January 11 – 18: CoRec opens at 8 a.m. and closes at midnight.
  • January 19 – 20: CoRec opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. ( Please note: there are no move-in times to be scheduled on these days but we will be open in the event someone cannot arrive prior to the start of classes.)
  • After hours arrivals: If you arrive between midnight and 8 a.m., you MUST report to the Purdue University Fire Department, 1250 W. Third St., West Lafayette, IN, for the move-in process.
What Shuttle Should I take from the airport?

Lafayette Limo from Indianapolis and the EAC Shuttle Service from Chicago O'Hare are offering consolidated stops at the CoRec. Please be sure to ask your driver to drop you off at this added location – available January 11-18, 2021. As a reminder, Reindeer Shuttle Service already has a drop off at/near Wiley Dining Court (across the street from the Co-Rec).
